Yin/Yang Patch Pair
Please note that when we mention the Yin/Yang patch pair, we mean a pairing of two patches, whereby the one on the left is relatively yin compared to the patch on the right.
Examples of Yin/Yang phototherapy patching pairs are:
- Energy Enhancer: The Tan patch is yin, the White patch is yang
- IceWave: The Tan patch is yin, the White patch is yang
- SP6C + Aeon: SP6C on the left (yin), Aeon on the right (yang)
- Carnosine + Glutathione: Carnosine on the left (relatively yin), and Glutathione (yang) on the right
- X39 + X49: X39 on the left (yin), X49 on the right (yang)
Yin/Yang meridians pair also refers to patching a Yin acupuncture point on the left side of the body and a Yang acupuncture point on the right side belonging to the same element.
Examples of Yin/Yang element pairings:
- Earth: Spleen/Stomach
- Metal: Lung/Large Intestine
- Water: Kidney/Bladder
- Wood: Liver/Gallbladder
- Fire: Pericardium/Triple Burner (more emotional) or Heart/Small Intestine (more physical)

Topics Discussed
Memory and cognitive issues
Erin asked for advice regarding her father, who was experiencing sudden memory loss, confusion, and behavioral disruptions, which she believed was related to mold exposure in his home. The doctors suggested checking for thyroid issues and other underlying conditions that could be contributing. They recommended a strategy that included patches like X39, Carnosine, and Aeon to help support brain function and cognition through specific acupuncture points.
Sleep and rest issues
The group discussed strategies for helping Jodi, who was struggling with insomnia and inability to sleep. The doctors recommended using a “yin-yang” patching approach, with a polarity reversal strategy that can be used if other methods fail. This incorporates tonifying a yin acupuncture point on the left Kidney 6 and sedating a yang acupuncture point on the right Bladder 62.
Tinnitus and ear issues
Brian shared his experience with worsening buzzing in the ear and less-than-optimal hearing, and the doctors provided recommendations to support the Kidney Qi, which in Chinese medicine is connected to ear function. These recommendations included using patches on Kidney 3, Small Intestine 19, and the “life gate” point on the lower back. They also discussed the potential protective effects of internal production of Glutathione on hearing.
Electrical activity and brain issues
Rochelle asked about using the Brain Balancing Strategy to address stress and worsen electrical imbalances in the brain that contributed to a fracture. She wanted to know whether she should address the brain issues first before focusing on the fracture pain and healing. The doctors advised starting with the Aeon patch to support the Autonomic Nervous System. Activating specific acupuncture points with Aeon might calm the brain’s electrical activity, incorporating other brain-supporting patches like X39 and Carnosine over time.
Detox symptoms and support
The group discussed why detox symptoms can occur when starting new patches, and the doctors explained that it’s because the patches enhance biochemical pathways to mobilize and excrete toxins. They recommended ensuring adequate hydration, minerals like magnesium, and using a five-element rotation of patches to support the body’s detoxification processes.
Recap and next steps
The meeting concluded with a recap of the key resources and next steps, including submitting additional questions for the next monthly Q&A session, connecting with Dr. Dennis and Nurse Heidi on their Zoom sessions, and having free access to the Acupoint Reference Chart.
Q&A Submissions
Erin P.
Q: What protocol would you recommend for an adult in a nursing home experiencing sudden severe memory and cognitive issues, as well as behavioral and argumentative tendencies? X39 patches have significantly improved his behavior, but his condition has worsened after mold exposure at home. He also has a history of arthritis and joint problems, and the caregivers are willing to assist with simple sticker applications.
A: Dr. Dennis: Toxicity might be part of the issue. The patches help with biocoherence.
- Patches that can support neurology: X39, X49, Carnosine, Aeon
- X39 and X49 daytime to start. Then perhaps adding:
- At night, carnosine is on Simian Point – at the bottom of the (right) heel. The energies go into the brain
- Aeon at night (behind the right ear, Anmian, or forehead)
- Dr. Karen: double-check thyroid hormones regarding cognition; examples are TSH, T4 free, T3 free.
Jodie B.
Q: What protocol would you recommend for someone whose wellness goal is to improve sleep and avoid staying up all night, having already tried Silent Night, Aeon, and Alavida?
A: Dr. Dennis: Using Carnosine on the right heel (Simian point) may be enough, but you can try Simian points on both heels, with Carnosine on the left and Silent Nights on the right.
- If you’ve exhausted all other combinations, use a positive, tonifying (see above) patch on the left Kidney 6 (master point for the rest channel). Usually, we use the right side, but this is an advanced use, given the acupuncture point purpose. Also, put a negative, sedating (see above) patch on the right Bladder 62 (sedating the master point for arousal). This reverses the polarity on purpose to sedate someone.
- Dr. Karen mentioned sleep hygiene (watch the replay for details), which includes eliminating EMF stress (turning off Wi-Fi, cell phones, etc.). We discussed disharmonious frequencies (like smart meters) that could interfere with health and sleep.
Kathy
Q: What protocol would you recommend for her husband, who is experiencing reduced arm swing, arm tremors, slowed foot movement, and low energy while currently using X39 daily?
A: X39 on Gallbladder 39 (which helps with the brain) can be helpful. If you use both X39 and X49, you can put X39 on the left and X49 on the right.
- Gallbladder 34 is another option – it harmonizes the Shao Yang channel, enveloping the brain. This point might be helpful for sinews and brain on some level.
- Consider the Brain Balancing Strategy with Aeon for two weeks first, then X39, then Carnosine, rotating through the different acupuncture points.
- Based on his clinical experience, Dr. Dennis suggested that the energy of phototherapy might support the brain’s lymphatics.
Brian S.
Q: What patching recommendations would you suggest for someone with worsening ringing in the ears over the past 2.5 years, linked to hearing loss and aggravated by stress, who works as a piano technician and has used Aeon and X39 intermittently?
A: Dr. Dennis: from the Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, the ears are the windows to the Kidney Qi. To tonify and support Kidney Qi, meditation, Kidney 3, and Small Intestine 19 *on the face – aka the Listening Place, would be helpful. An example would be a yin/yang patch pairing on SI19 points.
Example: Energy Enhancers on Kidney 3 inside ankles + X39 left SI19 and X49 right SI19
- X39 on Life Gate on Governing Vessel 4 and Energy Enhancers on Bladder 23 on either side of the Life Gate (White on the right, Tan on the left)
- Optional: Add a Glutathione patch, either stacking on the X39 (if on the centerline) or X49 or alone on a different day.
- Another strategy is to use Glutathione in the front of the right ear SI19 and Aeon behind the right ear lobe on the mastoid bone on the skull (sandwiching the right ear). Although it helps the whole body and the left side, it is most effective on the right side.
- If you want to do this with the left ear, you can use relatively more “yin” patches on the left, such as X39 in front and Carnosine/SP6C behind the ear.
Rochelle H.
Q: Do you prefer brain balancing (for stress) before patching for fracture pain? Can you do both?
A: The Five Elements Patching Strategy can help with stress via the acupuncture points used.
- For the first two weeks, we will use Aeon for brain balancing and then the Advanced Brain Balancing Strategy with the other patches.
- X39/X49 for Bladder 65 acupuncture point for supporting fracture healing
- Using IceWave for pain relief as needed
Fonda:
Q: Is it okay to wear the patches after a kidney transplant?
A: We currently don’t have data to confirm whether these patches are safe or unsafe for kidney transplant recipients, so we can’t make a firm recommendation.
That being said, Dr. Karen shared that if she were undergoing a transplant, she would feel comfortable using patches that support energy balance and reduce stress on the body. Specifically, she would confidently use Aeon, Energy Enhancer, IceWave, and SP6 Complete.
Ultimately, it’s important for Fonda to trust her intuition and assess whether using the patches feels aligned with her highest good.
Please note: this is not medical advice. Always consult your healthcare provider for personalized guidance. Decisions regarding care should not be made by non-physicians on behalf of others.
Lisi S:
Q: How and why do detox symptoms happen when starting patches?
A: All the patches enhance bicoherence and support the body’s natural biochemistry. Thus, when there is more energy or balance, the body will desire to excrete/eliminate toxins. When the toxins are released from the storage areas (often fat cells), they are in circulation and can cause temporary detox symptoms.
Detox symptoms include headache, nausea, feverishness, stomach cramps, muscle cramps, smelly armpits, and fatigue. To decrease these symptoms, you may optimize hydration and mineralization.
- The Five Elements Rotation Strategy can support all the detoxification organs and help them be more efficient. You can use Energy Enhancer or any yin/yang patch pairing (see above).
