Q&A Intro
During this month’s Ask The Doctors event, Dr. Dennis shared fascinating insights into the role water plays in our overall vitality. He explained that when hydration improves at the cellular level—even by as little as 1%—it may correspond with a measurable boost in metabolic efficiency. This suggests that true hydration isn’t just about how much water we drink, but how effectively that water penetrates and supports our cells.
He also spoke about the concept of “liquid crystal water,” a more structured state of water that some believe supports detoxification and healthy metabolism. The body is finely attuned to these shifts, with the hypothalamus acting as a sensor for changes in fluid and electrolyte balance, which is why we sometimes feel sudden thirst as our system seeks equilibrium.

Q: I would like a patch recommendation for using multiple patches daily. Can Aeon and X39 be used during pregnancy, especially if there’s a history of elevated blood sugar?
A: Dr. Dennis: According to principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the fewer the needles—or in this case, patches—the more powerful the treatment. However, this effectiveness depends on selecting the optimal acupuncture point or placement. Using a large number of patches may result in energy crisscrossing, which could interfere with the desired energetic effect. Dr. Dennis has observed that some individuals may be using too many patches unnecessarily.
Dr. Karen: If it’s working for someone and they feel better—not worse—I don’t have an issue with using more patches. The key is how the person responds. If they feel well and balanced, then the patching approach is likely appropriate for them.
Regarding pregnancy: LifeWave has not conducted clinical studies involving pregnant individuals. However, in her clinical practice, Dr. Karen has used phototherapy patches as a non-invasive option in situations where medications might otherwise be considered. She notes that since nothing is introduced into the body through LifeWave patches, she has leaned toward their use to support general wellness in pregnancy when appropriate, while avoiding specific acupuncture points contraindicated in pregnancy (such as Spleen 6) unless labor is intended.
Regarding elevated blood sugar, Dr. Karen shared her own experience with fluctuating sugar levels. She found that the SP6 Complete patch helped her maintain more stable energy levels and reduced the need for frequent meals. While no claims can be made regarding medical outcomes, her personal observation is that SP6 Complete supported her overall metabolic balance.

Q: I would like a patch recommendation for supporting the gastrointestinal system after recovering from black, tarry stools. I’m 59 and recently discharged from the hospital—what should I consider?
A: Dr. Dennis: When stool has a strong odor, it may suggest an imbalance in Spleen energy—possibly indicating the presence of an infection. If the stool lacks odor, it could point to a deficiency in Spleen qi. When blood appears to leak into the gut, it may be a sign of weak Spleen energy.
To support gastrointestinal health, it’s important to fortify the Spleen, as well as the Stomach, since both are considered Earth elements in Traditional Chinese Medicine. A reliable pairing to stimulate digestive balance is Spleen 6 and Stomach 36. If there is energetic stagnation or signs of obstruction in the gut, Stomach 37 may be more appropriate.
You can apply any Yin/Yang phototherapy patch pairing—such as Energy Enhancer—to those points. Additionally, you can place X39 or X49 on the front of the body at Spleen 15 and Stomach 25, which are located on either side of the navel. These placements may help regulate energetic flow and support organ function.
The AHK-Cu peptide, which is promoted through the use of X49, may also offer support to the blood vessels, contributing to overall vascular integrity in the gastrointestinal tract.

Q: I would like a patch recommendation for thick, cracked, and shedding skin on the bottoms of my feet. I’m an adult with no discomfort—what can support this?
A: Dr. Dennis: This presentation may be due to excess dryness or underlying damp energies. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the skin is governed by Lung energy. According to the Five Elements theory, the Lung and Large Intestine form a Yin/Yang pair.
To support the Lung, consider patching Lung 9, the Source point of the Lung meridian. In parallel, Stomach 25, the front-Mu point of the Large Intestine, may also be supportive in restoring energetic harmony to the skin.
You might also explore patching Bladder points on the outer edges of the feet or Liver points on the tops of the feet. Stagnant Liver energy can contribute to issues with blood circulation and regulation. Dispersing that stagnation may encourage healthier skin expression.
For example, you can use Kidney 3 and Bladder 60 to reinforce Water energy, helping counteract dryness. Alternatively, try Kidney 10 and Liver 8, which both support water distribution. These points can be used together.
- Place X39 on the left Liver 8 to help regulate water distribution through the Liver meridian.
- Place X49 on the right Kidney 10, a powerful point for mobilizing Water energy through the Kidney meridian.
Both the Kidney and Liver are Yin meridians. By placing X49 on the Kidney side, you encourage stronger movement of Water energy, which can help address excessive dryness more dynamically.

Q: What are recommendations for post-infection balance and inner ear issues?
A: Dr. Dennis: In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the ears are considered the “windows to the Water element,” which is governed by the Kidneys. Therefore, supporting Kidney energy can be beneficial.
You may consider patching Kidney 3 and Bladder 60 as a Yin/Yang pair. We often begin with Energy Enhancer or IceWave patches for these placements. Additionally, Bladder 23 (on both sides of the lower back) or placing X39 on Governing Vessel 4 (Life Gate) can help reinforce Kidney energy.
For local support around the ears, consider Small Intestine 19, located just in front of the ear.
If nausea is present, a single patch on Conception Vessel 12 may be useful to calm the Stomach and harmonize the Middle Jiao.
In cases where dizziness is related to internal Wind, points along the Liver or Gallbladder meridians may be indicated—such as Liver 3 or Gallbladder 20.
How to choose the right points? Gently press on the acupuncture points. If there is soreness, it may indicate energetic blockage in that area, which could guide you to the most effective patching locations.

Q: I would like a patch recommendation for numbness, burning, and referred pain in my legs—especially at night or when I cross my legs. What should I try?
A: Dr. Dennis: One approach is to use IceWave patches to actively move stagnant energy in the legs. Look for tenderness or sore areas along the legs—particularly on the Gallbladder meridian, such as Gallbladder 39—and apply the patches directly to those points.
Dr. Karen recommends using Liver 3 to help increase the flow of energy and Blood in the lower limbs, which may help relieve discomfort and restore balance in the channels.
In addition to traditional patching, Dr. Dennis also suggests incorporating PEMF-like (pulsed electromagnetic field) techniques by holding patches in hand and rhythmically waving them over the affected area. This can help create an energetic pulsing effect to break up stagnation in the field.
For foundational support, apply X39 and X49 to help optimize systemic function and encourage the body’s natural repair processes. When used in combination with Cellergize, this may further support stem cell activation and cellular resilience.

Q: What is a patch recommendation for an adult experiencing a bulging eye after eyelid surgery (not due to a tumor)?
A: Dr. Dennis suggests placing a Carnosine patch on the midline of the forehead or directly over the affected eye using an eye mask as a delivery method. Additionally, X39 may be beneficial when placed near or directly over the surgical scar to support the body’s natural repair processes.
To address potential fluid retention, Spleen 9 may help drain Dampness from the body. Apply a Yin/Yang patch pair—such as Energy Enhancer—bilaterally on Spleen 9.
Dr. Karen also recommends supporting the Lymphatic system through a simple sweep technique: gently sweep down from the head and face to the collarbone, then tap the area just above the clavicle. You can enhance this by wearing IceWave patches on the fingertips during the sweep or attaching patches to the ends of feathers to create a light, energetic brushing effect across the body.
These techniques aim to support energetic balance, circulation, and gentle detoxification during the recovery process.
Additional Highlights
Patch Count: More is not always better. Use the minimal effective dose to avoid energy congestion.
Yin/Yang Patch Pair
Please note that when we mention the Yin-Yang patch pair, we mean a pairing of two patches, whereby the one on the left is relatively yin compared to the patch on the right.
Examples of Yin/Yang phototherapy patching pairs are:
- Energy Enhancer: The Tan patch is yin, the White patch is yang
- IceWave: The Tan patch is yin, the White patch is yang
- SP6C + Aeon: SP6C on the left (yin), Aeon on the right (yang)
- Carnosine + Glutathione: Carnosine on the left (relatively yin), and Glutathione (yang) on the right
- X39 + X49: X39 on the left (yin), X49 on the right (yang)
Yin/Yang meridians pair also refers to patching a Yin acupuncture point on the left side of the body and a Yang acupuncture point on the right side, belonging to the same element.
Examples of Yin/Yang element pairings:
Fire: Pericardium/Triple Burner (more emotional) or Heart/Small Intestine (more physical)
Earth: Spleen/Stomach
Metal: Lung/Large Intestine
Water: Kidney/Bladder
Wood: Liver/Gallbladder
