Yin/Yang Patch Pair

Please note that when we mention the Yin/Yang patch pair, we mean a pairing of two patches, whereby the one on the left is relatively yin compared to the patch on the right.

Examples of Yin/Yang phototherapy patching pairs are:

  • Energy Enhancer: The Tan patch is yin, the White patch is yang
  • IceWave: The Tan patch is yin, the White patch is yang
  • SP6C + Aeon: SP6C on the left (yin), Aeon on the right (yang)
  • Carnosine + Glutathione: Carnosine on the left (relatively yin), and Glutathione (yang) on the right
  • X39 + X49: X39 on the left (yin), X49 on the right (yang)

Yin/Yang meridians pair also refers to patching a Yin acupuncture point on the left side of the body and a Yang acupuncture point on the right side belonging to the same element.

Examples of Yin/Yang element pairings:

  • Earth: Spleen/Stomach
  • Metal: Lung/Large Intestine
  • Water: Kidney/Bladder
  • Wood: Liver/Gallbladder
  • Fire: Pericardium/Triple Burner (more emotional) or Heart/Small Intestine (more physical)

Topics Discussed

Patch application and usage tips

Dr. Kan discusses tips for using the patches, including that the adhesive backing does not need to be removed, the patches can be worn through clothing, and they can be effective even when not directly on the skin. She also addresses common misconceptions about the placebo effect.

Case study: Yoga teacher’s car accident recovery

Dr. Kan shares a story about a yoga teacher who was in a car accident and used the patches to help with her recovery, including reduced pain and improved mobility.

Carrie’s question about cutting patches in half

Dr. Kan and Dr. Dennis mention that cutting patches is inadvisable because the liquid inside, when evaporated, makes it so the patches don’t work as well

Elyse’s sleep issues

Elyse describes her difficulty falling and staying asleep, which she believes is related to a past head injury. Dr. Kan and Dr. Dennis provide recommendations, including trying the advanced brain balancing strategy, using kidney 9 and bladder 62/kidney 6 to reset the nervous system, and ensuring proper hydration and electrolyte balance.

Gloria’s involuntary leg contractions

Gloria describes experiencing involuntary leg contractions at night, which her physical therapist believes may be related to nerve issues. Dr. Kan and Dr. Dennis suggest trying the X-39 patch to support nerve self-repair, as well as using ice wave and Aeon patches on the bottom of the foot and other key acupuncture points.

Allison’s constipation and gut issues

Allison reports experiencing constipation, bloating, and gas, which the doctors attribute to autonomic nervous system dysregulation and a “fight or flight” state. They recommend using Aeon patches on the head and belly button, as well as targeting specific acupuncture points like stomach 25, spleen 15, and special point, Lan Wei Xue, to help regulate the gut.

Wrap-up and resources

Dr. Kan summarizes the key takeaways and reminds participants about the ongoing Q&A opportunities with the Patch Training Team and Dr. Dennis’ monthly health clinics.

Q&A Intro

Dr. Karen Kan G. and Dr. Dennis Lobstein explain the placebo and nocebo effect and why some people may have a subconscious “need” for their symptoms. The patches have been studied in horses and dogs very successfully. Although these animals can feel positive intention, it negates the thought that the patches only work through “psychological” means.

Q&A Submissions

Carrie – Cutting a Patch for Ringing in the Ears

Q: Can I cut a LifeWave X39 patch in half and place it behind my ears for ringing sounds? I find X39 too strong.

A: Cutting the patch in half may cause the fluid inside to dry out, which could reduce or neutralize its effectiveness. Even if you only trim the outer edge, the liquid could still leak, shortening the patch’s duration and potency.

If X39 feels too strong, consider:
  • Using the patch for shorter periods. Instead of removing the adhesive backing, try attaching it with double-sided tape or applying it to clothing.
  • Drinking more water to support detoxification.

Elyse – Sleep and Patch Placement

Q: Aeon and Silent Nights don’t always help me sleep. I rotate points, and sometimes they work, but sometimes they don’t. Any suggestions?

A: Since you have been rotating Aeon on head points and using Carnosine but still experience sleep disturbances, consider the following:

Dr. Dennis’ Suggestions:
  • Bladder 62 (right) + Kidney 6 (left): Try placing Silent Nights on BL62 (right) and KI6 (left), reversing polarity (Tan on the right, White on the left). This balances the Bladder and Kidney meridians.
  • Tesla Strategy: Place Aeon near the heart and another Aeon on brain points to energetically link heart healing to the nervous system.
  • For sleep: Use Nirvana, Silent Nights, or Alavida under the right heel.
Additional Considerations:
  • Optimize hydration: You drink ~3 liters of Berkey-filtered water but use minimal salt. Electrolyte imbalances may be a factor—consider adding Himalayan crystal salt liberally. Using a Mayu Swirl or another water-structuring method (such as the upcoming X20 Water Machine) could also be beneficial.
  • Advanced Brain Balancing Strategy: Rotate Aeon, X39, X49, and Carnosine every two weeks.
Dr. Karen’s Suggestions:
  • Double Aeon: Place one Aeon on a brain balance point and another on the belly button.

Sean – Hormonal Imbalance and Ovarian Cysts

Q: I have bilateral ovarian cysts, irregular periods, and trouble losing weight. Would X39 (day) and Aeon (night) help balance my hormones?

A: Hormonal imbalances often involve Liver Qi stagnation, which can cause swelling in the uterus and ovaries. Consider the following strategies:

Acupoint Placements for Hormonal Balance
  • Liver 3 (LV3): Helps relieve stagnation.
  • Spleen 4 (SP4) & Pericardium 6 (PC6): Placing SP6C on SP4 (left, Tan patch) and Aeon on PC6 (right, White patch) can help move Qi and clear stagnation.
  • Zigong (3 inches bilateral to CV3): Place X39 (left) and X49 (right) to surround the uterus for targeted support.
  • Channel Sweeping: Use IceWave patches on the palms to energetically sweep the Chong Mai channel.
Additional Hormonal Support Strategies
  • Third Eye Placement: Alavida (on the third eye, at night) supports the pineal gland for neuroendocrine balance.
  • Combination Strategy: SP6C on Spleen 6 (left, daytime) + Aeon behind the right ear can help with hormonal and heat-related symptoms.
  • General Placement: SP6C can be placed on any left-side point, while Aeon can be placed on any right-side point for broader balance.
  • Spleen 6 (SP6): A critical point for hormone balance, as it intersects the Liver, Kidney, and Spleen Meridians.

Gloria W – Managing Involuntary Leg Contractions at Night

Q: I experience involuntary leg contractions at night, starting from the psoas, kicking up the foot, and contracting the pelvic floor. IceWave isn’t helping. What else can I try?

A: Since the issue may be neurological or related to the cervical spine, consider the following:

Dr. Dennis’ Suggestions:
  • Aeon Brain Strategy: Apply Aeon on a brain balance point to help reset the nervous system.
  • Toxin Cleanse: Detoxification may reduce symptoms. Consult your naturopath for guidance.
Additional Approaches:
  • IceWave on Kidney 1 (KI1): Placing IceWave on KI1 can help lower inflammation and improve Qi flow.
  • Aeon (Nighttime Placement): Apply Aeon on a brain balance point, such as the apex of a triangle formation on the head.
  • X39 (Daily Use): Supports healing and nerve regulation.

Alison W – Digestive Issues & Nervous System Dysregulation

Q: I experience constipation, bloating, gas, and lack of peristalsis, along with autonomic nervous system (ANS) dysregulation due to early childhood trauma. What can help?

A: This issue likely involves multiple layers of the nervous system, including the brain, gut, and energetic Qi flow. Consider the following strategies:

Dr. Karen’s Suggestions:

Double Aeon Strategy

  • Option 1: Place Aeon on a brain balance point and a second Aeon on CV8 (navel area).
  • Option 2: Place Aeon on a brain balance point and a second Aeon on the ileocecal valve.
Dr. Dennis’ Suggestions:

Use these placements with Energy Enhancer, IceWave, or a Yin/Yang patch pair for optimal results:

  • Lan Wei Xue (ST channel, 2 cun below ST36): Reduces inflammation in the ileocecal area.
  • ST37 (3 cun below ST36): Supports relief from constipation.
  • ST25 & SP15 (4 cun bilateral from the navel): Provides additional digestive support.
